 Cheese Straws (reprinted by permission from Froggy Bottom Louisiana Cuisine)

1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese

1 1/2 cups flour

1 stick or 1/4 pound butter

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons ice water

1/4 teaspoon red pepper

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Cream cheese and butter with blender
  3. Add ice water. Add flour and seasonings and chill.
  4. Roll out of pastry tube or on slightly floured board 1/8 inch thick. Cut strips 1/2 inch wide, 4 or 5 inches long. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
