Enjoy the flavor of south Louisiana Gumbo with this easy to prepare gumbo base mix.
For Chicken Gumbo: Combine 2-3 pounds of chicken, 2 quarts water or lightly seasoned stock, and Oak Grove Gumbo Base in a 4 quart saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until chicken is fully cooked. Serve over your favorite rice, pasta or grits.
For Seafood Gumbo. Combine 1.5 - 2 pounds of seafood such as shrimp, crab meat, oysters, etc. with 2 quarts of water and gumbo base. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer over low heat for approximately 30 minutes. Oysters should be added during the last five minutes of cooking. Serve over your favorite rice, pasta or grits.
Okra, smoked sausage and/or andouille may be added if desired.
